vegan trust issues...help http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30827.0 http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30827.msg363795#msg363795 I personally have been raising my daughter vegan for almost a full year...his parents pretend they understand but how come they think we are making our children feel left out. Last night I was so pressured into making her eat animal produced cupcakes and animal secretion cheeses that even her own father started to put pressure on me. And when I emailed his mother about how Christmas time is not an excuse, she put guilt on me and made me feel like i didnt trust her....well, how can i trust you when you are making constant guilttrips on me and more jokes about how you will sneak her some when i am not looking. Not to mention the poopies my daughter had today after i witnessed her being snuck a piece of animal secretion cheese. I cant handle it anymore, i am luckily having her bday dinner at my house on tuesday and making her a vegan mac casserole and vegan strawberry cupcakes, but i have absolutely NO want to bring her over for christmas eve.....im sooo sick of it. They make me feel like I am a bad mother when I KNOW i am basically saving my daughters life not to mention showing her how to save thousands of other lives....how do you do it? ps. my daughter is two and has ONLY had the sniffles three times, once when she wasnt vegan, and twice when i had le... |

Skinny Figgy Bars http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2006/08/skinny-figgy-bars.html I hope you enjoy this "rerun" of a recipe I associate closely with Christmas. It's my low-fat, veganized interpretation of the fig-filled cookies my husband's grandmother always made for Christmas. D looked forward to those cookies every year, and once he married a vegan, his grandmother often made a special egg-free batch just for us. Sadly, she's no longer with us, but I think of her |

Your top 5 produce picks? http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30823.0 http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30823.msg363776#msg363776 What are your top 5 favorite pieces of produce, and how do you usually enjoy them? Do you examine them thoroughly, dig in, or cook them in any special ways? Here are mine (I even included a list of produce that I WANT to try, but can't find anywhere, help would be appreciated in finding them!): 5. Kiwis. I usually slice them over a salad, peeled, or cut it in half and eat it with a spoon. This morning, I sliced some over my oatmeal (skin and all). 4. Blueberries. I ALWAYS have some frozen blueberries on hand for putting on my oatmeal, or mixing with almond milk fora sweet, healthy dessert/snack. 3. Asparagus. I LOVE steamed asparagus, but I usually eat it in some soup (I make soup every week using whatever veggies I have around). 2. Sweet Potatoes. Oh. My. God. I CRAVE Sweet Potatoes fresh out of the oven, baked and plain. I always eat them this way, I think they're delicious enough on their own as a side or add-in in soups. 1. Fuyu Persimmons. I just tried one for the first time today, and I am hooked! They're so sweet and delicious on their own! Top 5 'want-to-try" produce (in no particular order): 5. Blood Oranges 4. Dragonfruit 3. Galia Melons 2. White Grapefruit 1. Kiwiberries |

New veghead advice, for BFF? http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30819.0 http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30819.msg363713#msg363713 My longtime best friend watched the eating documentary on youtube (posted here by hespedal at http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30557.0)... she came upstairs PISSED, & a little teary, & started throwing stuff out: 'This will NOT be in my HOUSE!' (*love* that girl!) She'd heard some of the arguments for a plant-based diet from me or hubby, but that documentary really summed it all up and knocked her over... Her hubby's been trying to go back to vegan eating after a long hiatus, for health reasons among others, & now has full spousal backing... obviously I'd like to provide all the support I can, but there are several things about their situation that I've never had to deal with. For one thing, my eating habits evolved slowly, over years... I've never tried to go straight from an everything-omni to a no-animal-anything eater. Also, they have 3 kids (8/ 12/ 17) that are use to eating a standard American diet; by the time I settled where I am, food-wise, my only kid was a late teen (maybe not too late to influence, but late enough that he can darn well make his own dinner, if he doesn't like what I fix-- or go out & buy it, for that matter!). Also, it's her hubby that's the house chef; she needs low-hassle foods, whenever he's not making stuff. She's espe... |

Warm You to the Core Winter Root Stew http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30818.0 http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30818.msg363708#msg363708 Add to: Recipe Box | |</span> johnprice01, 12/20/09 Warm You to the Core Winter Root StewIngredients (use vegan versions): Lotus Root Burdock (gobo) root Carrots Daikon Turnips Onions (yellow, white, or red) Rutabaga Dried Shiitakes Kale Nama Shoyu (unpasteurized soy sauce, or similar) Grated Ginger or bottled ginger juice Peppercorn Medley (black, white, pink, and green peppercorns, or similar) Arrowroot powder Olive oil Directions:The trick to this is, keep it simple. It's super easy, and any mix of these or other roots will keep you toasty warm on cold days. I know it's heresy for some, but I avoid potatoes for glycemic issues,... |

Fooling around with people who are in relationships. http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30815.0 http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30815.msg363676#msg363676 So I come to you, dear vegwebbers, with a situation I'm currently in. This guy at work approaches me and basically asks if I want to have a 3-some with him and his girlfriend. I tell him I'm not interested, because I'm not into girls. Fast forward to a few hours later, when he tells me he'd like to "hang out" and that his girlfriend would be totally aware of it, and okay with it. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? I mean, this guy is totally my type and I'm not trying to date him. I just want to fuck him (too blunt?). At any rate, I'm slightly weary that he may still try to get me to engage in a 3some (which isn't happening until he gets a hot male roommate and re-introduces the idea)... but I could be overreacting a little bit. Anyway, sup? Tell me first-hand experiences, stories, etc. Also, I should mention that we work in different departmentss at work and never have to work closely with one another and dating/fucking is not prohibited unless you work in the same department. So my job isn't on the line... not that it would really matter. I don't plan on sticking around and could find another job really quickly if needed |

Gah! My ethics are frayed. X| http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30812.0 http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=30812.msg363616#msg363616 Long story short: My family and I are now in love with a pet store animal. We've been planning to take on a new guinea pig pretty much from the moment we woke to find the house unexpectedly silent last Christmas. I've been spamming my father's inbox with notices of guinea pigs in the local animal shelter. Buuut... no. This one individual from a pet shop. Bugger. I don't know what to doooo... As they go, this chain is hardly the WORST - they eschew anything even remotely resembling puppy mills, they don't 'get rid of' animals that don't sell or 'excess' - I've passed by and seen the same bird there for years on end, just sort of living there, in good health. Their rodents are of all different ages - the guinea pig in question is definitely into adulthood, much older than the babies I've usually seen in pet stores. They have employees hired more or less with the express purpose of socialising the animals and making sure customers play nice with them. But they are a chain, and they are a pet shop that treats living beings as commodities, however nice they seem. On the other hand, we've kind of decided it's time to take in a new pig, and it wouldn't be right to go to a shelter and pick one up as a consolation prize. Granted, getting a guinea pig from the s... |
